Doris Lyons Oxendine, 93, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Johnson City Medical Center. Doris was born in Elizabethton to the late Landon “Link” Lyons and Minnie Glover Lyons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William F. Oxendine; a grandson, Brian Franz; and a brother, Ralph Lyons.

Doris had worked at Sky City and at Walmart and was a member of Free Holiness of Roan Mountain. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Doris enjoyed crocheting and watching all sports, especially Cloudland Highlander sports and the Atlanta Braves. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and cooking for them, as she was a wonderful cook!

Those left to cherish Doris’s memory include her daughters, Mary (Harry) Franz, Edrie “Jody” (Kenneth) Bristol, Anita (Kermit) Baker, Billie Oxendine and Anna (Lynn) Surratt; her son, Willie Oxendine Jr.; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Doris’s life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 20, in the Tetrick Rhododendron Chapel of Roan Mountain with Pastor Don Julian officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel between the hours of 10 and 11 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow in the Peters Cemetery on Ripshin Mountain. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to especially thank the ICU Unit at Johnson City Medical Center. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations in Doris’s honor to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
