The following arrests have been reported by the Carter County Sheriff’s Office:
Domestic Violence Incident Leads to Arrest
Deputy Storm Scalf responded to a report of a physical domestic disturbance at 407 E. 4th Ave., on September 8, around 6:46 p.m. Upon arrival, Deputy Scalf found a male subject, Hunter Vanhoy, in the yard, and a female subject on the porch. After assessing the situation, Vanhoy was taken into custody without further incident. He was subsequently transported to the Carter County Detention Center and charged with assault as domestic violence. Legal proceedings are pending as authorities address this matter.
Failure to Appear Results in Arrest
On September 11, at 11:56 p.m., Deputy Sheriff Spencer Rhea encountered Eli Phillips at 2313 Elizabethton Highway, Johnson City, while in Washington County Sheriff’s Office custody. A verification from Carter County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters revealed an open capias for Phillips issued by Carter County General Sessions Court, related to failure to appear and driving on revoked. Consequently, Phillips was taken into custody and subsequently transported without incident to the Carter County Detention Center, where he awaits further legal proceedings.
Suspect Arrested After Physical Confrontation
On Monday, Sept. 9, at around 6:14 p.m., Deputy J. Shelton responded to a welfare check on Rittertown Road involving a female walking erratically in the road. Initially uncooperative, the individual was later identified as Rebecca Hayworth. Hayworth displayed signs of narcotic influence, with dilated pupils and incoherent speech. During the encounter, she attempted to evade by running toward an embankment, leading to a foot pursuit. As Deputy Shelton caught up, a struggle ensued, resulting in injuries to both. Hayworth was eventually subdued, arrested, and transported to the Carter County Detention Center. Charges include assault against a first responder, evading arrest, public intoxication, and resisting/stop arrest.
Erratic Behavior Leads to Arrest
On September 10, Deputy Thomas Hill responded to a report of a suspicious individual damaging mailboxes at 115 Towneview Estate. Upon arrival, Deputy Hill encountered a man matching the description at 109 Towneview Estate, later identified as Micheal Vest. Vest displayed erratic behavior, throwing objects and talking to himself. When questioned about his well-being, he admitted to taking PCP and continued acting disruptively. Vest expressed a desire to be taken to jail. As a result, he was charged with public intoxication and transported to the Carter County Detention Center without further incident.
Arrest Made for Public Intoxication
On Monday, Sept. 11, around 9:21 p.m., Lt. Eric Norman responded to reports of a male individual walking in the roadway near 1930 Siam Road. Upon locating the man in the 2000 block of Siam Road, he was identified as Mark Albury. Albury dropped to his knees and began to pray and sing upon initial contact. When asked about his condition, Albury admitted to being under the influence of methamphetamine. Due to his level of intoxication and the associated safety concerns, Albury was arrested and transported to the Carter County Detention Center. He faces charges of public intoxication.
Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest for Outstanding Warrant
On September 14, at 8:34 p.m., Deputy Storm Scalf noticed a white Nissan Altima traveling eastbound on Watauga Road without illuminated license plate lights. Deputy Scalf initiated emergency equipment to conduct a traffic stop, and the vehicle pulled over at 815 Watauga Road, near Brick Christian Church. The driver, Jody Tilson, identified herself during the initial contact.
A warrant check through dispatch revealed an active warrant in NCIC for Tilson’s arrest. She was wanted for violation of probation from Carter County General Sessions Court with a $25,000 straight bond. Without incident, Tilson was taken into custody and transported to the Carter County Detention Center.
