JOHNSON CITY – The Elizabethton Cyclone junior varsity team traveled to Johnson City Monday evening hoping for a repeat of Friday night’s contest against the Science Hill Hilltoppers.
Composed mainly of freshmen with a few sophomores and juniors, the Cyclones stood opposite the ‘Topper sideline that outnumbered the team from ‘Betsy three to one as the Cyclones just didn’t have the depth to keep up with the home team as they dropped a 47-7 decision.
Science Hill took the lead in the first quarter on a Jordan Clark eight yard run with 4:14 on the clock. Rylee Durrence point-after boot was good and the ‘Toppers led 7-0.
Clark added his second score on a three-yard blast just under three minutes into the second quarter as the ‘Toppers increased their lead to 14-0 after Durrence’s PAT. The home team kept piling on the points in the half getting a Ahsan Ewing seven-yard run and a Lucas Cross 45-yard scoring reception to go up 27-0 at the half.
Elizabethton came out of the locker room and had a little pep in their step as freshman quarterback Jackson Price found a wide open Braylon Britt for a 52-yard scoring toss. Logan Dillow’s point-after attempt was true and the Cyclones narrowed the deficit to 27-7.
However, the ‘Toppers went on to add three more scores to close out the game and take the victory.
