Senator Rusty Crowe, Representative John Holsclaw and Secretary of State Tre Hargett announce the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library will receive a $16,915 Training Opportunities for the Public, TOP, Grant to provide digital literacy training and increase broadband services for their patrons.
“This grant will enhance digital literacy and increase access to broadband for our citizens to ensure they have the ability to connect with others, conduct business and complete their educations,” said Sen. Crowe. “Libraries are an integral part of our communities and I appreciate the Secretary of State’s office for its support.”
“It is important that our libraries have up-to-date technology and training opportunities for residents to improve their digital literacy,” said Rep. Holsclaw. “I congratulate the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library on receiving this funding and look forward to the positive impact it will have in our community.”
TOP Grants are administered by the Tennessee State Library & Archives, a division of the Department of State with funding from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. TOP Grants are available for public libraries to provide digital literacy training, hotspots, solar charging stations and increased internet access at the library.
“Libraries play an essential role in increasing community access to technology,” said Secretary Hargett. “This grant improves the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library’s ability to meet the increasing technology needs of their patrons. This year, more than $325,440 in TOP Grant funding is being awarded to increase access to technology at 56 public libraries across Tennessee.
