Anna Belle Canter Woods entered into her heavenly home on August 15, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was one of nine children born to Jesse and Cordelia Hinkle Canter.
She attended Elizabethton City Schools where she was a member of the girls’ basketball team and the graduating class of 1943. She worked many years for the North American Rayon Corporation and was a faithful member of East Side Baptist Church for 86 years.
Anna married W. Rondal Woods in 1946. She was a wonderful mother to two sons, a precious grandmother to five grandchildren, a dear great-grandmother to ten great-grandchildren, and a loved mother-in-law, aunt, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rondal (1992); infant grandson, Michael Lynn Woods (1981); and her brothers and sisters, Robert Canter, James Herful Canter, Kermith Canter, Eddie Canter, Beryl Street, and Jane Coleman.
She is survived by her sons, Joseph (Nelia) and Gary (Patricia); grandchildren, Nathan Woods (Jennifer), Vanessa Woods, Veronica Stout (Eric), Annabell Ernst (Brian), and Joanna Woods; great-grandchildren, Rainier, Holston, and Roan Woods, Bodhi, Keats, and Boone Mink, Asa and Emmett Stout, Henry Ernst, and Zoe Woods; stepgrandchildren, Adrian Woods (Becca) and Dr. Amy Woods Houghs (Charles); her sisters, Jeanette Elliot and Leona Gentry; and several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Robert Canter Jr. (Leslie).
Friends may visit the funeral home from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday, August 17, to sign the guest register book and pay their respects or friends may also visit the home of Gary and Pat Woods at any time.
A celebration graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, August 18, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Gale Hartley officiating. Serving as active pallbearers are Nathan Woods, Eric Stout, Bodhi Mink, Keats Mink, Joseph H. Crowe and Leslie Markland. Honorary pallbearers are her great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Friends may visit the home of Gary and Pat Woods at any time. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:15 p.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elizabethton High School Women’s Basketball Team or the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Greenville, S.C. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Ryan Hackett and the third-floor nurses of Sycamore Shoals Hospital for the excellent care they provided.
