Betty Jo Glover, 87, of Hampton, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at The Waters of Roan Highlands.
Mrs. Glover was born in Elizabethton on August 24, 1935 to the late James S. Simmons Sr. and Winnie Hartley Simmons. She was a lifelong resident of Carter County and a member of Beck Mountain Baptist Church.
Mrs. Glover was a homemaker. She enjoyed sitting on her front and back porches in the summer. She also loved to garden, especially growing tomatoes, and was a regular watcher of The Price is Right and Gunsmoke. She was a lover of Gospel Music, and her favorite quartet, The Chuck Wagon Gang, was playing for her as she went to Heaven. One of her passions was cooking, and she made her family (and others) happy for many years with her delicious Southern meals.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James “Red” Glover, as well as eight siblings.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Debbie (Ken) Cole of Elizabethton and Tammy (Wayne) Smith of Hampton; one grandson, Chad Lunceford and partner Michael Kenner of Roan Mountain; one brother, Wayne (Linda) Simmons of Cleveland, Tenn.; and her half sister, Charlotte Blevins of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service and interment will be held on Wednesday, August 16, at 2 p.m. at Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday. Words of comfort can be sent to the Glover family through our website, www.tetrickfuneralhome.com.
