Bruce David Woods, 78, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, July 24, 2023, at Hermitage Health Center after an extended illness. He was born February 3, 1945 in Carter County to the late Lustus and Bertie Irene Scalf Woods.
Bruce served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and Desert Storm Era. He was a former member of the VFW and was a Disabled American Veteran. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart.
Bruce was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, J.C. Woods and Lustus Junior Woods.
Survivors include his wife, Nyoka Glover Woods; his children, Jennifer Leah (Shawn) Campbell, Christie Renee Wood, and Michael David Woods; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret A. Woods; two brothers, Eugene Woods and Bobby C. Woods; his four legged buddy “Midnight”; and his special friends, Jim Andrews, E.L. Miller, Michael Vannoy and Angie Perry.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at Memorial Funeral Chapel. The graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 31, at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 9:45 a.m. Monday, will be Samuel Young, Andrew Young, Shawn Campbell, Mike Vannoy, Dustin Robertson and Bobby Woods Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Williams, Jim Andrews and E.L. Miller. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery (Historic Section) at 9:45 a.m. Monday.
