Looking to get their club back to .500 on the season the River Riders would use a couple of hits, a State Liner error and four base hits to break open a tight game. Brenden Jones would get Elizabethton on the board with a ground ball single scoring the speedy Trey Fenderson to make it 1-0 after the first inning. The State Liners would respond with a line drive to left off the bat of Jake Copper to knot things up one run apiece. The River Riders were assisted by their catcher Kade Huff who threw a rope to second base to gun out Easton Rulli who attempted to steal second with a runner at third and two outs. The River Riders would take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third when Austen Jaslove would hit a deep ball off the center field wall for a double, once again plating Trey Fenderson who reached earlier on a fielder’s choice.
The big five-run inning would kick off with a Dylan Knowles walk followed by a DJ Dilehay single. Peyton Basler would then get an infield single off a slow roller to the pitcher and the River Riders would advance off a throwing error on the same play moving two runners into scoring position. Kade Huff would come up clutch hitting a hard ground ball past the shortstop to plate two runs pushing the River Riders advantage to 4-1. Xavier Clinton would then bloop a base hit to right plating Basler and Trey Fenderson would walk to load the bases. A Hayden Moore walk, and a Jones single would plate two more to make the new score 7-1, River Riders. The State Liners would pick a couple runs up to pull within 4 at 7-3 in the top of the 5th but could get no closer in the Sunday-Night 7-inning affair.
River Riders pitcher Turner Swistak was strong on the night giving up just one earned run and scattering five base hits in 5.1 innings to drop his ERA to 2.49 on the season. Trey Fenderson was 2-3 on the night with a stolen base and two runs scores; Xavier Clintron was also 2-3 with a stolen base and pick up two RBIs. The River Riders will kick off a two game set with the Greeneville Flyboys Monday night with a first pitch time of 7 pm; fireworks will immediately follow the game.
