Dodd-Berry, Ege advance to match play at The Amateur Championship

SOUTHPORT, England – ETSU men’s golfers Matty Dodd-Berry (Wirral, England) and Mats Ege (Kristiansand, Norway) advanced to match play at the 128th Amateur Championship, which is being held at Hillside Golf Club and Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club in Southport, England.
Five Buccaneers were in the field of 288 golfers that played a 36-hole stroke play event, beginning on Monday and concluding Tuesday afternoon. Both Dodd-Berry and Ege advanced to match play as they finished above the cut line, which was set at 2-under-par 141. The top 64 players moved on in the tournament.
Dodd-Berry finished tied for 20th in stroke play at 5-under-par 138. The reigning Southern Conference Freshman of the Year posted a 2-under 70 in Tuesday’s second round at Hillside, while he recorded a 3-under 68 in Monday’s opener from Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club. Over the 36 holes, Dodd-Berry registered 10 birdies and 21 pars.
Ege finished tied for 31st in the stroke play format at 4-under-par 139. The reigning SoCon Player of the Year opened up play at Hillside on Monday where he carded a 4-under 68 before posting an even-par 71 in Tuesday’s round at Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club. On Monday, Ege totaled five birdies – four of which came on the front nine. On Tuesday, Ege bagged three birdies and six pars on the front nine, before posting two birdies, three pars, three bogeys and a double-bogey on the back.
South Africa’s Ben Van Wyk led all qualifiers in the stroke play event as he carded an 11-under-par 132.
Dodd-Berry and Ege were joined by fellow Buccaneer teammates Algot Kleen (Fiskebackskil, Sweden), Archie Davies (Carlisle, England) and Jenson Forrester (Wolverhampton, England) in this year’s Amateur Championship. Kleen missed the cut by one stroke as he finished at 1-under-par 142.
