Darrell McCoy Harmon passed away peacefully at his home in the Poga Community of Butler, Tenn., on June 19, 2023. Darrell was born in Unicoi, Tenn., on December 25, 1943 to the late Henry Coy Harmon and Lesta Ward. He was preceded in death by his parents and a special aunt and uncle, France and Macie Harmon; sister, Reba Ellen Brown and her spouse Paul; and sister, Edith Guy and her husband Frank.
Darrell was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member of Beech Mountain Missionary Baptist Church and attended faithfully with his beloved wife until his health prevented going.
Darrell started in life as a farmer then became a factory worker, followed by driving a school bus and eventually became long haul trucker. He was raised with a strong faith in the Lord, that family meant everything and a tremendous work ethic. His favorite pastimes were fishing, reloading ammo and mechanical projects. His legacy is love of family and God, hard work and honesty and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Those left to cherish and remember Darrell are his beloved wife, Nancy Louise Harmon of the home; two sisters, Alma Harmon Carter of Elizabethton and Juanita Harmon Brown of Elizabethton; his brother, Henry Coy Harmon Jr.; his daughter, Vicky Maya Bobadilla and husband Adrian of the home; his son, Timothy Darrell Harmon and wife Michele of Elberta; four granddaughters, Heather Guy and husband Richie, Amber Maze of Deep Gap, Alexis Harmon of Elizabethton and Katrina Harmon of Elizabethton; two grandsons, David Mallard and wife Clara Beth of Elizabethton, and James Harmon of Elizabethton; a stegrandson, James Walker of Elberta; four great-granddaughters, Sierra Tester of Gray, Sarina Mallard of Deep Gap, Aurora Guy of Elizabethton and Brianna Mallard of Elizabethton; and one great-grandson, Levi Maze of Deep Gap. Many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors of the Poga Community also survive.
Friends and family are invited to share memories and love with the family on Friday, June 23, between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton.
A celebration of Darrell’s life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 25, at Beech Mountain Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. David Burnap officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church. The graveside service will follow the reception in the Harmon Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to say a special thank you to those who have so graciously offered prayers and words of comfort during this difficult time. Darrell was a friend to all, and the love shown by his community reflects that friendship and love he had.
