Lamas/Pernas finish season ranked No. 68 nationally

TEMPE, Ariz.– The final ITA Rankings for the 2022-23 season were released on Wednesday, and ETSU’s Francisco Lamas (Maracay, Venezuela) and Thiago Pernas (Buenos Aires, Argentina) finished the season ranked No. 68 nationally in doubles.
Lamas/Pernas went a perfect 6-0 in doubles this season, including a 3-0 mark in Southern Conference play. The Buccaneer duo enjoyed a signature win over Ohio State’s Andrew Lutschaunig/James Trotter, 6-3, in ETSU’s first round match with the Buckeyes in the NCAA Tournament. Lutschaunig/Trotter went on to win the NCAA National Championship in doubles.
Lamas/Pernas won five of their six matches at No. 2 doubles and the other came at No. 3 doubles. The tandem won their first match of the season, 6-2, at Chattanooga on March 24, while also picking up wins over Furman, UNCW and The Citadel in regular season play. At the SoCon Tournament, Lamas/Pernas began the Bucs’ run to a fifth straight tournament with a 7-5 win over The Citadel in the quarterfinals. Their matches in the SoCon semifinal and championship went unfinished.
