Elizabethton High School presents diplomas to Class of 2023

A light, hazy sky greeted early-morning arrivals to Elizabethton High School’s Citizens Bank Stadium for the Class of 2023 graduation before a brilliant sun soon chased the clouds away as over 190 students completed their secondary education program at the high school.
Members of the Elizabethton City School Board were on hand to convey the diplomas with help from Director of Schools Richard VanHuss, Elizabethton High School Principal Dr. Jon Minton, and Assistant Principals Joe Diaz, Tom Hopson, and Sheri Nelson. Brian Culbert, director of EHS Career and Technical Education, also assisted in the awarding of diplomas.
Mrs. Debbie Gouge provided the opening Prelude and the traditional “Pomp and Circumstance” as the soon to be graduates entered the stadium. Once seated, Owen Wampler presented the Senior Mediation prayer.
SGA President Karlee Lloyd addressed her fellow seniors followed by a short presentation by Class President Gabe Short.
A musical presentation titled “The Prayer” by Carole Bayer Sager & David Foster was presented to those in attendance by Short and Emmaline Grubbs, both who were named All National & TN All-State Choir participants.
Dr. Minton then addressed the senior body before Director VanHuss accepted the Class of 2023.
It was the time that all the students have been striving for as each graduate was presented with their diplomas as many flashed large smiles while others shed a tear or two realizing their goal had been achieved much to the delight of hundreds who filled the stands to cheer on their graduate.
As the Class of 2023 was recognized, many caps filled the air in one final show of celebration for the class in unison before heading their separate ways on different paths as a new future begins for each one.
