Nineteen members of the Cloudland FFA Chapter attended the 95th State FFA Convention, March 19-21 in Gatlinburg. The chapter, as a whole, was awarded the “PLOW” award for excellence in literacy. In addition, four members earned the coveted “State FFA Degree.” Those students include: 11th grade student Charleigh Dugger, and 12th grade students Melena Roberson, Peyton Odom and April Stone. The “State FFA Degree” requires students to have the highest participation in the FFA, a total of 300 or more hours in their home agricultural activities, and proven leadership in their chapter. These four recipients are among the over 30 students at CHS who have received the “State FFA Degree” since 2011. As for the convention as a whole, the group had a wonderful experience, and came back renewed and ready to “Rise Up” as leaders, and “Ag-vocate” for the industry that feeds and clothes each and every one of us. Students in attendance, from left to right in the group photo, included: Alicia Harrison, Caroline Shell, Charleigh Dugger, Livia Berkhimer, April Stone, Melena Roberson, Savannah Wright, FFA Advisor and Cloudland Agriculture Teacher, Lauren Turbyfill, Kaitlyn Harrison, Peyton Odom, Zachary Wright, Izabella Jarrett, Elijah Holtsclaw, Kenzie Street, Blake Dugger, Megan Johnson, Tate Shaw, Cam Peppers, Lucas Johnson and Colin Davis. The National FFA Organization is the largest student-led organization in the United States, with over 850,000 members nationwide. Students engaged in FFA develop the potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success.
