State Senator Rusty Crowe (R-Johnson City) has been reappointed by Lt. Governor Randy McNally to serve as a member of the Governor’s Council for Armed Forces, Veterans and their Families.
The Council facilitates collaboration and coordination of federal, state, and local organizations and members of the Tennessee General Assembly in order to strengthen the system of care for service members, veterans, and their families. Additionally, the council works closely with various service and advocacy organizations that address unique challenges faced by the veteran population of Tennessee including mental illness, traumatic brain injury, employment, housing, and education.
“I appreciate the confidence of Lt. Gov. McNally has placed in me,” said Crowe. “As a Vietnam War veteran, issues dealing with our military and our veterans and their families are close to my heart. I look forward to continuing on this very important committee. Our veterans put their lives on the line for us. We need to do all we can to support their needs as well.”
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Crowe has energetically fought for Tennessee’s military heroes during his years of service in the State Senate. He co-sponsored legislation increasing employment opportunities for veterans and their families. Additionally, he co-sponsored the Tennessee STRONG (Support, Training, and Renewing Opportunity for National Guardsmen) Act. This initiative established a four-year pilot program for eligible members of the Tennessee National Guard to receive a last-dollar tuition reimbursement toward a first-time bachelor’s degree. Crowe also supported efforts to reduce the amount of property tax owed by veterans, eligible low-income elderly and disabled homeowners and legislation establishing the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children.
