ETSU men’s basketball inks three during early signing period

JOHNSON CITY – ETSU men’s basketball head coach Desmond Oliver and his staff announced on Monday the signing of three Buccaneers during the 2022 early signing period.
The Bucs have landed two freshmen in Callum Richard (Gastonia, N.C.) and Dante Oliver (Jonesborough, Tenn.), along with junior college transfer guard Jaden Harris (Norcross, Ga.) from South Plains College.
Callum Richard– Center – 6-11 – 210 – Gastonia, N.C. (Gaston Day School)
• Averaging 13.2 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game
• An All-Metrolina Athletic Conference selection
• NCISAA 2A All-State selection
• Ranked second-best big man in the state of North Carolina

“We’re excited to officially welcome Callum Richard to the Buccaneer family. He is a traditional 5-man that plays with physicality at both ends. Callum has a great paint presence in the post with the ability to score the ball over either shoulder. His work ethic, character, and love for the game are all qualities that we held high in the recruiting process.”
Jaden Harris – Guard – 6-4 – Norcross, Ga. (South Plains College)
• Averaged 6.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 33 games last year at South Plains
• Registered eight double figure scoring games, including a season-high 21 points against Hill College on Nov. 27, 2021
• Totaled 12 points, seven rebounds and two assists against Lamar State College – Port Arthur on Nov. 13, 2021
• Played at Norcross High School under head coach Jessie McMillan
• Led Norcross to a Region 5 Championship
• Named second team all-Gwinnett County his senior year at Norcross High School
Coach Oliver on Jaden
“We are thrilled to welcome Jaden Harris to our program. Jaden is a tough, physical guard that can defend and make shots from both deep and the mid-range. He will bring a high level of experience to our backcourt, and he is coming from a winning junior college program. He’s going to understand what goes into winning at the college level. Our fans are going to enjoy watching the intensity he plays with on the court during his time as a Buccaneer.”
Dante Oliver – Guard – 6-5 – Jonesborough, Tenn. (Dobyns-Bennett High School)
• Reached the 1,000-point milestone for his high school career during his junior season at Asheville Christian
• Averaging 13.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game over his high school career
• Two-time all-district selection
• Earned CAA all-conference honors
• Has maintained a grade point average over 4.0 throughout high school

“We are extremely excited to welcome Dante to our program. Dante will have the unique ability to play three positions in our backcourt, and will provide more shooting to our roster. Being a coach’s kid, Dante will bring a level of discipline, commitment and understanding of the game that many freshmen don’t always have. We are looking forward to his ability to bring some depth to our backcourt next year.”
