The Elizabethton High School swim team competed in their first dual meet of the season on Monday against Tennessee High School. It didn’t take long for the Cyclones to qualify for their first events in this season’s State meet. The first individual event of the night, the 200 Freestyle, saw Kody Broussard qualify with a time of 1:59.96. Cadie Digby followed that with a State qualifying time of 26.51 in the 50 Freestyle, also known as the Splash and Dash. Her time was just .51 seconds off the time she swam at the State competition last season. Morgan Roszel swam the third qualifying time of the night in the 500 Freestyle even as he continues to rehabilitate from knee surgery just six weeks ago. “To swim so well this early in the season is obviously a good sign of things to come,” said Coach Kelli Broussard. The team began formal practices only three weeks ago. Several of this season’s twenty member team have returned from last year’s successful season and are already clocking personal best times. Grace Artz swam the 200 and 500 Freestyle events in times faster than her best swims last season. Ella Edmondson was over four seconds faster than last season in her 100 Freestyle, RJ Brewer dropped an astounding 20 seconds from his 200 Individual Medley and thirteen seconds in his 100 Butterfly, and Liam Cannon swam over four seconds faster in his 100 Breaststroke.
The Cyclones host Morristown and Avery County next on Dec. 1. The meet will start at 6 pm.
