ABINGDON, Va. — Earlier this year, Food City officials announced plans to join the Ace Hardware family with the launch of their new line of Curt’s Ace Hardware stores.
The supermarket retailer is preparing to celebrate the grand opening of its fifth Curt’s Ace Hardware store, located on Highway 19E in Elizabethton, Tenn. Ribbon-cutting ceremonies will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 8 a.m. The store opening will follow at 8:30 a.m.
“As we continue to grow and expand our company to better serve our customer’s needs, we are excited to be joining the Ace Hardware family of stores,” says Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer. “Sadly, locally owned hardware stores are becoming a thing of the past. Having served in the grocery industry for 40+ years, I have seen firsthand how important a local well-run supermarket is to the community and I think the same holds true for local hardware stores.”
The company plans to launch its new division of Curt’s Ace Hardware stores throughout the Tri-City region, in communities where there is a need. In July, they celebrated their first store opening in Bristol, Va., opened their second location in Piney Flats, Tenn. in August, followed by their third location in Gray, Tenn. in September and their fourth location in Erwin in October. A store in Abingdon, is soon to follow.
“We greatly appreciate the support of our loyal customers, and we want to leverage our Curt’s Ace Hardware brand to better serve the communities where we already do business,” says Smith. “Food City is the name you trust for your grocery needs, now we can help with your home and garden needs as well. Given our vast merchandising and marketing experience, I am confident our team will do an excellent job managing and operating these locations.”
Ace Hardware is known for its wide variety of top-quality products, including Benjamin Moore paints, Big Green Egg, Trager, and Weber barbeque accessories, as well as power tools and equipment, hardware, lawn and garden, and other home improvement supplies.
Headquartered in Abingdon, Va., K-VA-T Food Stores (Food City’s parent company) operates 149 retail outlets throughout southeast Kentucky, southwest Virginia, east Tennessee, north Georgia, and Alabama.
