KNOXVILLE – The Tennessee Vols celebrated 21 seniors prior to Saturday’s kickoff against the Missouri Tigers in the final home game of the 2022 season and gave them a day they won’t soon forget by the end of the game as the #5 Vols took the Tigers to the woodshed in a 66-24 rout.
Tennessee’s offense set a record in the game as the Vols recorded 724 yards of total offense in the game – 264 yards on the ground and 460 yards through the air in the contest.
Missouri gave the Vols all they wanted in the first half as the Tigers managed to hold Tennessee to only 28 points in the half while scoring 17 of their own.
Tiger quarterback Brady Cook was the catalyst for the visitors as the signal caller carried nine times for 86 yards in the opening half to keep his team in contention.
Heisman candidate Hendon Hooker of Tennessee, however, was equally impressive as the senior threw for 229 yards in the half with a score and rushed six times for 57 yards and a score to help the Vols build the lead on a cold, misty day inside Neyland Stadium.
Jabari Small and Jaylen Wright each tacked on a rushing touchdown in the half and Princeton Fant was on the receiving end of Hooker’s scoring toss.
Coming out of the locker room, the Vols turned up the heat and the scoring as Tennessee went on to outscore Missouri 38-7 in the final 30 minutes of action – even scoring a touchdown in the final minute of the contest to push the final score out further.
Dylan Sampson led the Vol rushing attack with eight carries for 98 yards and a score. Hooker finished the contest with 355 yards passing and three scores.
Joe Milton III took over in the fourth quarter and didn’t miss a beat as Milton threw a bomb to Squirrel White that was downed at the one-yard line and then connected with Ramel Keyton on a 46-yard scoring toss to finish 3-for-3 for 105 yards.
Jalin Hyatt reeled in seven catches for 146 yards and one score, while Bru McCoy caught nine balls for 111 yards.
Missouri’s Cook finished with 106 rushing yards and had 217 yards passing with two scores. Tauskie Dove and Dominic Lovett were on the receiving end of the two scoring tosses.
Tennessee will be on the road to close out the 2022 regular season as they travel to Columbia, South Carolina on Saturday to take on the Gamecocks and then finish up in Nashville the following week against Vanderbilt.
