JOHNSON CITY — Justin Stanton, Grammy Award winner and Elizabethton native, will be one of two guest artists performing with the ETSU Jazz Ensemble Friday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. The other guest artist will be new ETSU saxophone professor Brian Rodesch.
Stanton, an ETSU graduate, is a trumpeter and keyboard player in the Grammy-Award winning band Snarky Puppy, a jazz fissure band he joined in 2006 while in graduate school in North Texas.
His musical journey began in the choir and marching band at Elizabethton High School and continues at ETSU.
From Tennessee to Texas to New York, Stanton has allowed the infinite opportunities found in the words of music to lead him across the globe. As a trumpet player, keyboardist, and composer, he has developed a reputation as a multi-faceted musician who can serve an essential role to whichever artist he is contributing, both on stage and in the studio.
While at North Texas, Stanton joined Snarky Puppy and since then has recorded eight albums with the group and has appeared on the majority of their numerous recordings.
Stanton resides in Brooklyn, N.Y., and is in constant demand for his ability as a multi-instrumentalist.
Tickets can be obtained with the Martin Center Box Office. Tickets can be ordered online or call the Martin Center at (423) 439-2787.
The Martin Center is located at 1320 W. State of Franklin Road across from ETSU’s main campus.
