Jonesborough man charged with motor vehicle theft

According to Washington County Sheriff Keith Sexton, Criminal Investigators apprehended Spencer Yates, 45, Jonesborough, while following up on a burglary in Jonesborough on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

When investigators arrived at the residence, a white GMC pickup truck was in the driveway ahead of them. Contact was made with the driver of the truck and investigators discovered that the vehicle was being operated by Yates. As investigators followed up, they checked the status of the white GMC and records indicated the vehicle was reported stolen from Marshall, N.C., in early October 2022.

The vehicle was recovered by investigators to be returned to the victim and Yates was arrested for motor vehicle theft. Bond was set at $10,000 and his initial appearance in court was set for Wednesday, Nov. 2.
