Quilts and quilted items of many types will be on display at Hopwood Christian Church Oct. 14 and 15. Handmade quilted items and crafts will be on sale in the church foyer.
Admission to the show is free. All proceeds will go to the church building fund.
Quilts will be on display Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The exhibition is titled “Quilts Under Stained Glass.”
The sanctuary of Hopwood Memorial Christian Church is one of the oldest congregations in the area, its almost-200-year-history ties it to a number of historical figures and events.
According to organizers of the show, in the 1930s, the women of Hopwood raised money to buy the church’s beautiful stained glass windows by coming together and making quilts and selling quilts.
In more recent years, the quilt shows provide a chance to showcase some local art as well as a nice nod to the church’s heritage. On display at this year’s show will be a wide variety of quilting types and patterns, including Amish quilts, utilitarian quilts, and yo-yo quilts, plus other handcrafted art.
The exhibition is staffed by church members and quilters ready and able to answer questions about the quilts on display or about the art and history of quilting in general.
Hopwood Memorial Christian Church is located adjacent to the campus of Milligan College.
