The Elizabethton Cyclone junior varsity welcomed Sullivan East to Citizens Bank Stadium on Monday evening looking to make it a sweep over their conference rivals from Bluff City.
Behind an outstanding showing on both offense and defense, the Cyclones built a 33-0 first half lead and cruised to a 39-0 shutout over the Patriots.
Jaiden (J Bird) Wallin got the Cyclones going quickly as the running back broke out to the left of the line and rumbled 70 yards as the big man tiptoed down the Cyclone sideline all the way to pay dirt.
Colin Nidiffer booted the point-after attempt and the Cyclones led 7-0 with 3:57 left in the first quarter.
The Cyclones kept the pressure on as quarterback Justin Whitehead took care of business after the defense forced the Patriots into a punt. Whitehead kept the ball on a four-yard scamper into the end zone and Nidiffer sent the ball through the uprights for a 14-0 advantage.
Lineman Gavin Kodak used cat-like quickness for a big man as the sophomore pounced on an East fumble to set the Cyclones back up in business still in the first quarter.
Coach Brian Jenkins called the right play at the right time as Whitehead found sophomore tight end Blaine Tolley on a 21-yard pass into the end zone as the Cyclones took a 20-0 lead into the second half after the conversion failed.
On the ensuing offensive possession for East, the Cyclone defense got in on the scoring as defensive back Alex Riddle read the quarterback perfectly and stepped in front of a pass and took it 30 yards for a score. Nidiffer booted the point after and the Cyclones led 27-0 with 9:50 left in the first half.
The Cyclones still weren’t finished in the half as Whitehead connected on his second scoring toss of the half when he found Zach Wallin for a 33-0 lead after the PAT was blocked.
Neither team found the end zone the rest of the half as Elizabethton went into the locker room with a 33-0 lead.
The third quarter was a scoreless quarter with each team failing to get a sustained drive as Jenkins began to freely substitute players into the game. Defensive player Big Jaevin Morefield was solid in the half,creating chaos in the middle as he recorded two solo tackles and was in on several assists.
The Cyclones added their final score in the fourth quarter when Maddox Lucas rolled around the end and into the end zone with 3:22 left in the game. The point-after failed and the game had its final score.
On the final drive, Jenkins sent several players into the game to run the football on the final drive including Billy Woodby, Wyatt Pittensbarger, and Nidiffer.
