It was a happy time on the creek this weekend. The Rangers beat Happy Valley for the second year in a roll, Tennessee beat Florida, and fall has arrived. Unaka moved to three and three and has this coming Friday night off to prepare for Claiborne County on October 7th. It was the second win in as many games for Unaka, beating Jellico last week for homecoming by a score of 46-7
Quarterback Landon Ramsey passed for another hundred-yard game completing 12 of 22 passes. Ramsey’s runs in the final minutes lifted him over 50 yards rushing to secure the win for the Rangers. Jamol Blamo who had to leave the game until the final four minutes rushed for 103 yards on eight carries, and scored a touchdown. Blamo also caught four passes for 48 yards, and his brother Joe-z caught four passes for 42 yards. Both players caught a 2-point conversion pass that played a big role in the four-point win.
T.J. Thomas who shocked the crowd last week with his 87-yard run, stopped short of the goal line to hand off to a teammate for a score, had the biggest run for the Rangers on an 83-yard kick-off return to give the Rangers the lead.
On defense, Ramsey recorded nine solo tackles and assisted on three more. Takota Freeman made five tackles and Johnny Douglas made four. Blamo was in on seven tackles while Ryan Peters and Brynin Repass tallied three.
October’s schedule is tough for Unaka; they play Cosby on the 14th, a must-win conference game, then Hampton on the 21st and finish up with happy Valley at home on the 28th.
Coach Bennett’s comments:
Happy Valley is a tough, well-coached football team. This game came down to who could best capitalize on mistakes. Joe-Z Blamo stopped their opening drive of the game by forcing a fumble in the red zone. We returned the favor after getting a fourth down stop later, fumbling the ball and setting them up with a short field and extending their drive by jumping offsides. Later, We dropped a fourth-down pass, but Takoda Freeman jumped on a fumble the very next play. Knowing we play again at the end of the season, we know we have to work hard to clean up mistakes because I know Coach Jarrett and his staff will do a great job correcting them. Fortunately, we get a bye this week to really focus on us and getting better for the back half of the season.
