Alfred King was the tallest in his class as a middle schooler; where he won many basketball games and went on to play at the historic Cranberry High School. In his senior year in 1950 King would lead his team to the state tournament title game where they lost by one point. King made All-State that year. His basketball skills would take him to the capital where he played for the F.B.I. He left Washington for Jacksonville Florida to play basketball for the Great Southern Trucking Company before leaving for the United States Army.
King found his way to coaching Little League and Babe Ruth. In the mid-seventies, he would become the director of the Boys Club in Elizabethton, where he was in charge of all teams in all sports. In 1989 the name was changed to the Elizabethton Boys and Girls Club. He was the director from 1977 to 1991.
King and his wife Margaret have three children, two sons Chris and Terry and one daughter Beverly. Their children were involved in sports. Chris played high school baseball for Elizabethton and went on to play in college for Tusculum College and Milligan. Terry played football at Elizabethton and then played football for E.T.S.U. King’s daughter Beverly was drum major for Elizabethton High for two years. She received her college degree from E.T.S.U. and Purdue University.

The best and most important thing in life is being a Christian and living the life Christ intended for us to do. Without love in our heart, we have nothing is what King lived by. Al and Margaret King were married for 66 years and sadly he passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. Al was a long-time member of Borderview Christian Church.
