Roan Mountain Summer Concert Series — We’re going Country on the Roan one more time and nobody does it better than Preston Benfield, one of our top musicians in the area with a great blend of your favorite covers and some of his heartfelt originals. Preston will be performing with a special concert time of 2 to 4 p.m. at Anderson Community Park (behind the post office) in Roan Mountain. We’re havin’ one last HoDown and you’re invited. So grab your cowboy hat and dust off the boots. Bring a lawnchair, pack a picnic and spread a blanket. Everyone is invited to come on up and enjoy an evening on the Roan.
Open Jam at The Station, located on 19E just before the North Carolina line, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27, from 3 to 5 p.m. Join the fun with jam leader Jam Leader Brett Pryon.
State Certified Trainer Ken Potter will hold a state certified Armed/Unarmed Security Officer Class at 135 Keenburg Road, Elizabethton, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Potter stated the class would also cover renewal training, which is required prior to the issuance of a license by the state. The class covers several topics like use of force and active shooter. Applicants must be 21 years of age to obtain an armed guard license and 18 years of age for an unarmed license. Weigh-in begins at 5:30-6:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 6:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings. The Jenkins Family Reunion will be held at 1 p.m. at the Golden Corral, 3104 Brown Mill Road, Johnson City (behind McDonald’s). All family members are invited to attend.
Boozy Creek Community Center, 1989 Shelleys Road, Bristol, Va., will hold a Fish and Chicken Fry at 4 p.m. In addition to fish and chicken, the meal will include lots of fantastic sides, a large variety of desserts, and drinks.
