William “Bill” Lawson McKinney, 87, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away on August 12, 2022.
William was a student at Cloudland High School. He joined the United States Navy in 1952 and served for six years. He married Lucille Johnson in 1958 and welcomed his first child in 1960. William enjoyed working in construction and was an avid vendor at flea markets near and far.
William was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Lucille Johnson McKinney; his parents, Sanford and Ruth Shell McKinney; his brother, Ed McKinney; his sisters, Betty Heaton, Carolyn Johnson and Ethel Teghtmeyer; and his grandson, Lucas McKinney.
William is survived by his children, Pamela McKinney, Cynthia (Ethan) Boles, Greg (Lisa) McKinney and Todd (Amy) McKinney; his siblings, Cheryl (R.L) Miller and Sanford “Jay” (Rosemary) McKinney; his grandchildren, Zach (Katie) Boles, Madison Boles, Brandon (Amanda) McKinney, Jared McKinney, Courtnie McKinney and Ryan McKinney; his great-grandchildren, Maddux McKinney, Ali-Jo McKinney, Jack Boles and Levi Boles; along with loving companion, Eva Sullivan.
William will be fondly remembered as a wonderful husband, a caring father, a fun-loving grandfather, a doting great-grandfather, a first-class friend, and a proud patriot and veteran.
In keeping with William’s caring and generous spirit, it was his decision to participate in the Anatomical Gift Program at Quillen College of Medicine. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
William’s family would like to extend their utmost gratitude to The Waters of Roan Highlands and Avalon Hospice Care for the wonderful care that was provided.
