“Expect more and better!”
Organizers of this year’s Covered Bridge Days are announcing the line-up of entertainment for this year’s festival and telling fans of the event to expect more of the same from last year, except “even better.”
This will be the second year the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department has managed the event. The festival, which used to be a summer staple, has now found a new home in the early fall, a move that Parks and Rec Director Mike Mains says he believes offers a more pleasant weather experience for festival attendees and a chance for more families to participate.
“School is out, so this gives us an opportunity to serve even more families with Kids’ Island activities, mascot appearances, and inflatables,” Mains said. “We will have exceptional entertainment, we already have double the number of arts and crafts vendors from last year, more food trucks, new characters to entertain the children and more.”
The actual event is set for September 23-25 in Elizabethton, and features live entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, a Kids Island, a Youth Business Fair and a Third Block block party.
However, this year, the party will get started early. Two concerts will kick off the celebration with contemporary Christian singers Crowder with special guest, Big Daddy Weave, performing on Wednesday, Sept. 21, and country stars Kip Moore and Dylan Scott taking the stage on Thursday, Sept. 22. Both concerts will be held at Citizens Bank Stadium at Elizabethton High School.
“The kick-off concerts have been a joint effort between us and City Hall,” Mains said. “Greg Workman, Elizabethton’s purchasing director, is the one who really started the whole thing for the kick-off concerts.”

The celebration will then officially open at the Covered Bridge Park and downtown area on Friday, Sept. 23, and that evening the featured performer will be The Grascals, whose music is “immersed in the traditional values of soul and musicianship.”

They have appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Fox & Friends, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and CBS’ The Talk. They have 200 performances on the Grand Ole Opry under their collective belts and they have performed twice for President George W. Bush and at President Barack Obama’s inaugural ball at the Smithsonian.
On Saturday evening, Sept. 24, Ricky Skaggs will take the stage. A 15-time Grammy Award winner, Skaggs first started playing mandolin over 50 years ago. He has won eight Country Music Association awards including the coveted “Entertainer of the Year” award and has been honored by induction into six different Hall of Fames. With 12 consecutive Grammy-nominated classics behind him, all from his own Skaggs Family Records label… “the diverse and masterful tones made by the gifted Skaggs come from a life dedicated to playing music that is both fed by the soul and felt by the heart.”
A spectacular fireworks show, sponsored by Carter County Bank, will begin immediately following Skagg’s performance.
The festival will conclude on Sunday with a performance by multi-Dove award winning and multi-Grammy nominated bluegrass Southern gospel music group, The Isaacs. The Isaacs consist of Sonya Isaacs Yeary, Lily Isaacs, Becky Isaacs Bowman and Ben Isaacs. On August 10, 2021 they were invited to become members of the Grand Ole Opry.
