Beginning June 6, National Forest System Road (NFSR) #50 Laurels Road, also known as Dennis Cove Road, will be closed to the public for maintenance work.
The road will be closed from MP 5.77, at the end of county maintenance, to MP 11.47, with the intersection of Heaton Branch Road. The road will be closed to the public for 150 days. The project will consist of reconditioning the roads and ditches, culvert replacement, grading, roller compaction, hazard tree removal, resurfacing with crushed aggregate, and brushing and mowing.
Repair will begin on NFSR #50 while NFSR #39 remains open for access. After repairs to NFSR #50 are complete, NFSR #39 Little Stoney Road will be closed during repairs following the same procedure. Maintenance will also be performed on NFSR #39 from the end of the asphalt at MP 2.30 to the intersection of NFSR #50 at MP 5.08. Minor repairs will be completed on NFSR #39 for easier travel.
“At the completion of the work, we will have a road system that will benefit the landowners and the public and provide a resilient, sustainable road,” said Keith Kelley, Watauga District Ranger.
