The City of Elizabethton offices will be closed Monday, May 30, for the observance of Memorial Day.
Because of the closing, garbage collection for the week of May 30 has been altered. Monday through Thursday collections will be made one day late with Thursday and Friday being collected on Friday.
Also, all Carter County offices will be closed as will all state and federal offices. There will be no delivery of mail Monday.
Also, most financial offices will be closed Monday for the holiday observance.
In observance of Memorial Day, a special service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Elizabethton/Carter County Veterans War Memorial. The names of the 258 Carter Countians killed in World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam Conflict, Operation Desert Storm, and Enduring Freedom will be read by the Boy Scouts of America Troop 516.
Following the ceremony Simply Elegant Bakery will be offering complimentary coffee and desserts to veterans.
