Budget committee sets aside over $1.4 million for outside agencies in 2022-2023 budget

The Carter County Budget Committee voted to appropriate more than $1.4 million to cover outside agencies’ request for the new fiscal year of 2022-2023 during the budget hearing on Monday.
A total of 30 agencies were addressed individually and voted on by the committee, including:
– Volunteer Fire Departments: $469,000.
– Butler Volunteer Fire Department: $3,000.
– Elizabethton Fire Department: $9,000.
– Carter County Rescue Squad: $371,105.
– Tennessee Rehabilitation Center: $27,809.
– Shepherd’s Inn: $12,000.
– Children Advocacy Center: $5,000.
– Isaiah 117 House: $5,000.
– Assistance Resources Ministry (ARM): $7,500.
– Second Harvest Food Bank: $10,000.
– Loaves and Fishes: $12,000.
– Keep Carter County Beautiful (KCCB): $5,000.
– Red Cross: $2,500.
– Appalachian Tails Rescue: $12,000.
– First Tennessee Human Resources Agency: $30,570.
– UETHDA: $4,000.
– Senior Citizens Center: $26,500.
– Elizabethton-Carter County Library: $75,000.
– Elizabethton City Park and Recreation: $25,000.
– Elizabethton-Carter County Boys & Girls Club: $20,000.
– Imagination Library: $5,000.
– Soil Conservation District: $44,000.
– Department of Agriculture: $1,000.
– Carter County Chamber of Commerce: $225,000 (to come from the hotel and motel tax).
– First Tennessee Development District: $13,015.
– UT Agriculture Extension Office: $1,500.
– East Tennessee Spay and Neuter: $2,500.
Kids Like Us was not eligible for funding this year while the budget committee rejected NetRep’s $15,000 request since they are being merged into a regional hub.
In other budgetary approvals for the 2022-2023 fiscal year, the budget committee approved the following funding allocations for county offices:
– County Commission: $192,200.
– Board of Equalization: $7,602.
– County Mayor: $353,440.
– County Attorney’s Office: $83,582.
– Election Commission: $459,756.
– Register of Deeds: $274,400.
– Planning Development: $402,786.
– County Buildings: $988,169.
The vote was unanimous for all eight of the offices.
The next meeting of the budget committee to address the fiscal year budget for 2022-2023 will be at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, at the Carter County Courthouse.
