Thanks to the work of Keep Carter County Beautiful vice-president Ross Garland, who spearheaded a grant for the creation of wayfinding signs for Carter County, visitors will now have easier access finding local points of interest.

On May 10, the KCCB delivered the signs to the Carter County Road Commission and Roan Mountain Parks.

According to KCCB chairman Don Hlavaty, the signs will provide tremendous value to those coming to the area for the first time or just revisiting.

“The signs will enhance tourism and assist in directional wayfinding in our county,” Hlavaty said. “The signs identify special interest locations, parks, cities, recreation activities, natural attractions, and provide informational messages.”

Garland worked to coordinate the new artwork and identify many of the county’s parks, recreational features, and points of interest. The signs identify places like the Tweetsie Trail, Blue Hole Falls, Gap Creek Park, Elizabethton Covered Bridge, Hampton Watershed Trails, Hershel Julian Landing, Green Bridge Landing, and the Eric C. Anderson Community Park.

There are six signs that have the entire county with all the areas of interest marked.

Additionally, signage for hiking trails, fishing, rafting, and litter prevention were created. The signs will be placed throughout Carter County in the coming months in which residents and visitors will be able to use these directional signs to identify Carter County’s treasures.
