It wasn’t a secret as to what the Elizabethton Lady Cyclones had to do in their loser’s bracket championship in the District 1-AAA Softball Tournament being held at Sullivan East High School.

Win and the Lady Cyclones had a region berth locked up and a shot at the District title or lose and pack up the gear for another year. In the end, the Lady Cyclones did exactly what they needed and that was to defeat the Lady Falcons of Volunteer 7-2 to eliminate the Lady Falcons and secure at least two more games.

A scoreless game after three innings, the Lady Cyclones jumped out front with two in the top of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. The Lady Falcons responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning to knot the score at 2-2.

Elizabethton turned the tide in the top of the fifth inning when they hung four runs on the board to take a 6-2 lead. After Volunteer couldn’t answer in the bottom of the inning, the Lady Cyclones added a little breathing room by tacking a solo run on the board in the top of the seventh to take the 7-2 lead.

The Lady Falcons couldn’t answer as the Lady Cyclones advanced to Thursday’s championship game against Tennessee High. Should Elizabethton win the first game, an If Necessary game will be played immediately after for all the marbles including a home region game.

Molly Johnson and Emma O’Quinn had two hits apiece in the game to pace the Lady Cyclones as both recorded a pair of singles. Johnson picked up two RBIs while O’Quinn also drove home a run.

Winning pitcher Madisun Pritchard added a triple to aid her cause while Cheyenne Poiroux and Maely Ingram slapped a double apiece. Maddie O’Quinn and Kenidy Harris added a base hit each.

Zetta Smith had two hits to pace Volunteer while Bryleigh Salyer, Audrey Evans, Kendra Huff, Veda Barton, Emily Wyatt, and Haley Russell each collected a hit for the Lady Falcons.
