The quick response of the Hampton Volunteer Fire Department kept a bad situation from getting worse on Friday.
A call around noon on Friday summoned the fire department to a report of a brush fire getting close to a structure at 155 Hazelwood Road in Hampton.
Upon arrival, Hampton Fire Chief Chris Isaacs and two more volunteer firemen attempted to build a fire line around the fire that had begun working its way up a ridge behind the residence.
The fire managed to cross the line due to light winds in the area forcing Isaacs to go to the top of the ridge with a brush truck where another home and structure were located.
Using leave blowers and rakes, the firemen were able to contain the fire. The U.S. Forestry service also responded with a grader and took over the scene to keep the fire from reigniting again.
