Valley Forge Elementary School placed first in the district in the recent Ronald McDonald House Charities in the February Hearts for the House Fundraiser. The students raised $712 in the fundraiser, which equaled an average of five hearts for each of the 140 students enrolled at the school.
Adrian Woods, a student in Mrs. Lisa Burdick’s second grade class, sold the most hearts with 150. Adrian also placed third in Carter County in the fundraiser, and received a $25 check for his prize.
Mrs. Burdick’s class sold the most hearts in the school with 236 and was awarded McDonald’s Happy Meal coupons, and because they also averaged selling five hearts per student, they received McDonald’s dessert coupons for each student as well.
Two more classes averaged selling five hearts per student in their classes. Mrs. Erin Vaughn’s first grade class sold 201 hearts. J.B. Highsmith sold 102, the second highest number in the school, and Jennings O’Dell sold 53, the third highest number sold.
Mrs. Dana Ward’s kindergarten class sold 92 hearts. Both classes were rewarded with McDonald’s dessert coupons.
Valley Forge Elementary is very proud of its students’ efforts for such a very worthy cause!
