Terry Hubbard, educator and former Director of Special Education for the Carter County School System, has announced her candidacy for the Carter County School Board, District 7 in the May Republican Primary.
Hubbard is a lifelong resident of Carter County, whose career in education spanned 38 years. She worked at Midway, Little Milligan, Happy Valley Elementary and then went to Happy Valley High School as principal. She retired from the school system in 2020 as Director of Special Education.
In announcing her candidacy, Hubbard said being on the school board will allow her to continue working and advocating for the education of all children in the community.
“All decisions should be made in the best interest of students. All educational stakeholders (students, parents, faculty, and personnel) must be partners in this endeavor if we are to be successful. Students must be provided necessary opportunities to reach their potential.
“With my background and knowledge of our district, if elected, I will help to provide the necessary leadership. I believe that Carter County has highly qualified teachers and staff working with our children,” said Hubbard.
She continued, “We must re-establish morale among all employees and provide environments conducive to learning. By working together we can share in the knowledge and satisfaction that we have provided for the educational needs of all children and have built a district where students, parents, teachers, and staff feel they they are welcome and want to be a part.”
Hyder is the mother of a lifelong Carter County student and grandmother to a future student. She said she is very passionate about the local school system and that is one of the reasons she is seeking the school board position.
