Missing from the sideline was head coach Lucas Honeycutt who wasn’t feeling well, but that didn’t stop the Elizabethton Cyclones from coming out of the gates quickly on Senior Night.
Grabbing a 43-23 lead at the break, the Cyclones withstood a late Morristown West rally to cut the lead down to 11 points before pushing the advantage out to 19 and eventually take a 73-56 win.
Once again, it was the hot shooting of senior guard Jake Roberts that got his team off on the right foot as Roberts ripped the cotton for 18 points in the first half including five treys.
Nicholas Wilson came to play as well as the big man battled and battled on the inside scoring nine in the opening half. Mason Ball and Bryson Rollins chipped in with six points apiece while Nate Stephens and Seth Carter each totaled two points.
Bereket Evans recorded seven to lead the team from Hamblen County.
The second half started out with a Trojan change of tempo that resulted in the lead from the half being slowly whittled down to the 11-point deficit. A late timeout by Gary Harrison filling in for Honeycutt calmed the team and turned the ship back around as the lead started to build once again.
For the game, Roberts led both teams as the game-high scorer with 22 points with Wilson dropping in 16. Carter got a hot hand in the second half and finished with 12.
Evans paced the Trojans scoring 14 points while Tory House netted 11.
