Bucs attack Bulldogs in 76-69 win… ETSU opens home stance on a positive note

JOHNSON CITY – The ETSU women’s basketball team gets their second Southern Conference win of the season, beating Samford 76-69.
STAT OF THE MATCH
Rebounds have been a struggle for ETSU this season, but not tonight. The Bucs outrebounded the Bulldogs 45-36.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Courtney Moore (Gainesville, Fla.) has carried her hot streak into tonight’s game. Moore finished the night with 12 points, six assists, and three rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bucs opened the game with a three-pointer from Sarah Thompson (Gate City, Va.) to kick things off. The first quarter was filled with intense back-and-forth action, with the Bulldogs taking command 18-16 going into the second quarter. Halfway through the second quarter, the Bucs would go on an 11-2 run, taking a five-point lead at 27-22. The Bucs outscored the Bulldogs, 17-9, leading 33-27 at halftime.
Samford came out of halftime with a point to prove, but the Bucs would stay with their pace. Damiah Griffin (Memphis, Tenn.) accounted for 8-of-17 Buccaneer third-quarter points. The Bucs trailed by only one point going into the final period of play. The fourth quarter would be enough time for the Bucs to complete their mission of a win, outscoring Samford 26-18. The Blue & Gold also outscored Samford at the charity stripe in the final 10 minutes, 7-1.
NOTABLES
  • The Bucs had three double-digit scorers in Griffin (14), Moore (12), and Carly Hooks (Atlanta, Ga.) with 12.
  • Jakhyia Davis (Knoxville, Tenn.) recorded 10-of-45 rebounds for the Bucs, while finishing two points shy of a double-double.
  • The Bulldogs also finished tonight’s contest with three double-digit scorers.
  • Andrea Cournoyer finished the contest with 19 points and seven rebounds for Samford.
