The annual “Glow in the Dark Dodgeball” event will make its return in February.
“We had a huge following right before COVID hit in 2020, so this is the first time that we are coming back with these big indoor events,” said Kelly Kitchens, Parks and Recreation Program and Special Events Coordinator. “We are excited for what the future holds and to build this program back up.
“We will have black-lights that we are going to set up inside of the gym, and we encourage everyone to wear their brightest and most neon outfits. It shows up very well in the black lights and makes you super visible. It is a ton of fun,” Kitchens said.
Kitchens said that there will be different age groups to make things fairer.
“The little kids will start at 7 p.m., and that age group is from kindergarten up to third grade. They will go until 7:30, and that is when the next group, the fourth through eighth-graders, will have a chance to go at it until 8 p.m.,” Kitchens said. “At eight, the ninth- through twelfth-graders will get their shot, and after that, there will be a free for all.”
Kitchens said that the last half hour includes free play as well as parents versus kids. “If you have kids that aren’t afraid to get out there with the older kids, or parents who are ready to take out revenge and face off with their kids, that is the time for that.”
Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition will be set up at the event selling concessions.
“We are super excited to be back. We had a lot of programs that had a lot of participation and were staples within the community before COVID. You have the people who knew about these events and how fun they were, and then those who maybe didn’t know and are looking for things to do in the community with their kids and family,” Kitchens said.
Elizabethton Parks and Recreation will be hosting “Glow in the Dark Dodgeball” on Feb. 18 from 7 until 9 p.m. at the Elizabethton Recreation Center, 300 West Mill St. No registration is required.
