Jr. Lady Cyclones down Ocoee in sectionals

The T.A. Dugger Jr. Lady Cyclones have set their sights on earning a trip to the TMSAA state championships as they opened play in the TMSAA Sectionals on Saturday at Powell Middle School.
Facing off against Ocoee in the opening round, the Jr. Lady Cyclones came out with a 41-20 victory.
The win advances TAD to a Monday evening contest against West Valley at 4:30 p.m.
Against Ocoee, the Lady Cyclones came out with a fury jumping out front 17-2 at the end of the first quarter of play. Michelle Shields scored nine in the quarter while Adrian Heading, Rylee May, Sadie Williams, and Jamira Smalls each contributed two points apiece to help build the early advantage.
The second period was a little closer as TAD outscored Ocoee by one, 9-8, to take a 26-10 halftime lead.
Shields added five more points to her scoring column to finish with 14 in the half. Williams buried a triple and Jasy Shell hit 1-of-2 from the free throw line.
Ocoee’s Kaitlynn McDonald led her team with six points in the quarter while Emma Hailey added a deuce.
Coming out of the locker room, the Lady Cyclones pretty much put the contest to bed as they once again outscored Ocoee 14-5 to lead 40-15 heading into the final six minutes of play.
Shields continued to play at a high level offensively scoring five more points in the quarter while Smalls came up big with four points. Heading knocked down a trey and Rylee May added a deuce in the quarter.
Lyla Sims had a three for Ocoee.
With the game pretty much in the bag, the fourth quarter was lackluster in scoring as Ocoee took the period 5-1 with Sims scoring all five for Ocoee while Rylie May hit 1-of-2 from the charity stripe.
For the game, Shields had a game-high 19 points to lead TAD. Smalls finished with six points with Heading, Rylee May, and Williams scoring five points apiece. Shell finished with one point.
Sims and McDonald led Ocoee with eight points each while Klaire Hall and Hailey contributed with two points apiece.
Smalls pulled down 12 rebounds in the game for the Lady Cyclones with Williams and Shields cleaning the glass for five and four respectively.
Shields also added seven assists and two steals in an all-around complete game.
