BLUFF CITY – Before Tuesday’s Upper Lakes Conference contest between Elizabethton and Sullivan East, the Patriots Dylan Bartley was recognized for hitting 2,000 points in his career.
It wasn’t long before fans from both sides witnessed just how Bartley was able to achieve such a lofty milestone as the senior put his team on his back and carried them to a 76-63 win in which he tallied a game-high 33 points.
The victory evened the regular-season ledger at one game apiece between the two rivals.
It was only a three-point game at the half as the Patriots managed to squeeze out a 32-29 advantage as both teams went at it physically in the half.
Bartley recorded 13 points in the first 16 minutes to help East take the early edge.
Meanwhile, Jake Roberts, who appeared to be the East student section most focal point of the night, dropped in 10 points to keep the Cyclones at arm’s length of the home team. Seth Carter chipped in seven points all in the first quarter for the Cyclones.
The Patriots came out of the gates and worked their lead to nine at the end of the third quarter before sealing the deal in the final period of play as East visited the foul line 15 times in the quarter.
Logan Murray followed Bartley in double figures with 13.
For the Cyclones, Carter finished with a team-high 16 points followed by Roberts with 12. Mason Ball added double figures finishing with 10.
Other scorers for ‘Betsy included Bryson Rollins (5), Nate Stephens (2), Bryce VanHuss (6), Dalton Mitchell (8), and Nicholas Wilson (4).
