John Thomas Reynolds, 72, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at his residence. John was born in Elizabethton to the late James Lynn Reynolds and Maxine Goodwin Reynolds. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Reynolds and William “Bill” Reynolds.
John retired from Summers-Taylor Paving where he drove an asphalt truck. He was a United States Army veteran, having serviced in the 1st Cavalry in the Vietnam War. John always helped anyone that had a need and enjoyed traveling, bluegrass festivals, dancing, especially country square dancing with the Slapping Leather Western Dance Association, golfing and watching Tennessee Volunteers football.
John attended Valley Forge Methodist Church.
Those left to cherish John’s memory include his son, Thomas James Reynolds of Hudson, N.C.; a granddaughter, Kirsti Reynolds Shatley and husband Seth of Lenoir, N.C.; one sister, Debbie Killen of Gray, Tenn.; and the mother of his son, Dianne (Ricky) Dula of Lenoir, N.C. Several nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
A graveside service to celebrate the life of John Thomas Reynolds will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, January 3, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Military Honors will be accorded by Boone Dam VFW. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 10:15 a.m. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.
