Aaron Charles Greer, lifelong Carter County/Stoney Creek resident and local businessman, proudly announces today his intention to run for election as the Trustee of Carter County in the May 2022 election. This decision follows the announcement last week from current Trustee Randall Lewis of his intentions to retire and not seek re-election. Aaron is the son of Kenny and Vickie Greer, grandson of Charlie “Mack” (deceased) and Vera Hardin Smith and Rev. Bill and Mary Nell Grindstaff Greer. He is married to the former Julie Pearce and they have three children, Hadley, William and Grady. Aaron has a brother Wes, who is married to Mandy Byrd Greer.
Julie and Aaron became owners of Barkers Drive Thru restaurant in the Stoney Creek community in October 2020 continuing a Stoney Creek legacy that had been in operation for 30+ years. In addition, Aaron also operates light construction equipment focusing on ground clearing and prep, cutting out driveways and roads, and hauling dirt and rock. Aaron most recently worked for Business Information Systems, (8+ years), a Piney Flats company that provides Government Software utilized throughout the state of Tennessee, including Carter County. Aaron’s territories extended into many of the different offices within every county and throughout the Southeast region of the U.S. He was involved with the design, sales, installation and support of various software applications and programs throughout Tennessee to ensure proper operation and efficiency of the supported offices. While at Business Information Systems Aaron serviced all 95 Trustee Offices in the state of Tennessee as well as many other elected offices. Aaron frequently conducted software demonstrations at conferences with these elected officials from all 95 counties where he gained their respect and acknowledgement as a subject matter expert.

Aaron’s strong work ethic began at a young age. Some of his employment history also included part-time jobs while in high school (Barkers Drive Thru) and college (Peebles and Lowes, both in Elizabethton). Aaron even started a lawn care business shortly after high school graduation while continuing his part-time jobs employment. In addition, Aaron worked at Nuclear Fuel Services in Erwin for 1-1/2 years for Murray Guard Security as an armed Tactical Response Force (TRF) officer which required both a Department of Energy (DOE) and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) federal security clearance while completing a Bachelor of Science degree at East Tennessee State University.

Aaron graduated from Unaka High School in 2006 and participated in multiple sports (golf, baseball, football and basketball) including being a member of the 2004 State championship basketball team. He has maintained a strong relationship with both Unaka Elementary and Unaka High School sports programs through the years. This included coaching the Unaka Elementary Basketball Team for two years at which time they achieved regular season championships both years and the tournament championship one year. Aaron has supported Unaka High School athletics in many capacities including establishment of live streaming video for football games during the COVID-19 pandemic 2020 season.

The family attends New Liberty Freewill Baptist Church where Aaron is the Sunday School Superintendent, a Teenage Class teacher, and serves as a Church Trustee. Julie is a Primary Class teacher in addition to serving as the Vacation Bible School director. As a church trustee, Aaron is responsible for assisting with maintaining church properties and improvements such as incorporating live streaming video technology and FM radio station broadcasting of church services, and other audio/visual improvements. These technology applications proved to be extremely important during the COVID-19 pandemic 2020 year to allow the church congregation to worship from a distance while maintaining a connection. Aaron also provided similar video services for the congregation of Watauga Valley Freewill Baptist Church during the COVID-19 pandemic 2020 year.

Aaron will apply the same relentless dedication to this office that he has demonstrated throughout his business career. He will be able to utilize his extensive knowledge of the software operation and his contacts of elected Trustees and County Officials throughout the State of Tennessee. Aaron intends to manage the local Carter County Trustee office in a professional, accountable manner where the goal will be to achieve the highest level of efficiency with continuous improvement to benefit the citizens of Carter County.
