Loaves and Fishes Food Ministry at River’s Edge Fellowship in Elizabethton held a clothing giveaway on Saturday.

The ministry, which normally serves the community by making freshly prepared meals and providing food boxes to those in need, held the clothing giveaway as a way to give back to the less fortunate in the area.

“We are always taking donations, and around every three or four months we host a clothing giveaway for people in the community to receive as much clothing as they need for no cost at all,” said Serena Miller, director of Loaves and Fishes.

“This particular event was a little different however, as Saturday we were able to host free haircuts as well for no cost,” she said. “A special shoutout goes to local retired beautician Bea Snyder for coming out and allowing us to do that. Not only that, we were also blessed to receive contributions from local restaurants in the form of a free chicken sandwich coupon at Chick-fil-A and a free kids meal coupon at Freddy’s.”

Miller also made it a point to recognize the people whose donations made the event possible. “The clothes we receive come from people who donate unused or unwanted clothing, and we separate all of the items into men’s, women’s and children’s groups just to make things easier for those coming to receive items.”

Hosting an event like this that positively impacts the community means a lot not only to Miller, but also all of the other people involved in the Loaves and Fishes Food Ministry.

“There is such a need in our community,” Miller continued. “And because of that need, we are always trying to help make things better, whether that is serving meals or hosting a clothing giveaway. For all of us involved in the ministry, it is all about the people we help and the lives we touch.”

Loaves and Fishes Food Ministry is located at River’s Edge Fellowship at 1200 US-19E in Elizabethton and offers meals and food boxes to anyone in need from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday.
