SSGT Stephen “Steve” P. Jackson, United States Army Retired, 65, of Johnson City, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol, Tenn. Steve was born in Peoria, Ill., to the late Clayton and Barbara Shipp Jackson.
Steve retired from the United States Army after 28 years of service as a Staff Sergeant where he had served his country proudly in both Vietnam and Desert Storm. He was of the Christian faith and loved airplanes (he had served on Aircraft missions during Vietnam while in the Navy), loved to travel and most especially he loved spending time with his grandchildren and his daughter.
Those left to continue Steve’s legacy include his wife of 14 years, Sharon Cordell Jackson, of the home; his son, Stephen Jackson of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; his daughter, Summer Jackson Whisenhunt and husband Phillip of Piney Flats, Tenn.; his stepchildren, Adam Shell and wife Samantha and Brody Shell and wife Amanda, all of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; his godson, Diego Herrera of Elizabethton, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Grace Whisenhunt, Keri Whitehead, Gabriella Mayse, Alex Shell, Derek Shell, Mara-Jade Shell and Daniel Shell; his great-granddaughter, Ashlionna Mayse; a very special sister, Mary Jackson; and his sister, Lorraine Turner Wilson.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 10, at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton.
A graveside service to honor the life of SSGT Stephen “Steve” P. Jackson will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, at Mountain Home National Cemetery (New Annex – 215 Heroes Drive) with Pastor Terry Lyons officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Boone Dam VFW Post #4933. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in memory of Steve.
