Vernon Spencer Vines, 79, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, October 22, 2021, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Tracy and Pollie Hicks Vines.
Vernon was a retired carpenter. He was a member of Long Hollow Baptist Church and Watauga Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patty Vines Wilson; a sister, Burlie Stansberry; and a brother, Martin Potter.
Survivors include his daughter, Lesha Markland, and great-granddaughter, Kenadee, of the home; his grandchildren, Jessica Taylor, Erica Wilson, Jeffrey Wilson, Amanda Wilson, Joseph Wilson, Slater Wilson, Brandon Wilson, Victoria Stathan, Chariety Stathan, Spencer Cole and Dustin Stathan; 19 great-grandchildren; his sister, Linda (Walter) Carrier; his brothers, Brownlow (Delora) Vines and Arnold (Linda) Vines; several nieces and nephews; and a special cousin, Frankie Flannrey.
A memorial service will be conducted at 5 p.m. Saturday, November 13, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ray Davis officiating. Music will be provided by the Sounds of Victory. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeffrey Wilson, Joseph Wilson, Chris Flannrey, Gary Champman, Junior Cole and Eddie Peters. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
