After a dominating 42-6 win from the Cloudland Highlanders on the road against Johnson County last Friday night, a game that ended in just three quarters due to weather, the ‘Landers look to finish their regular-season campaign with another win this week.

Cloudland will be on the road again on Friday when they travel to Baileyton to take on the Huskies of North Greene for their final contest of the regular season.

Highlanders head coach Zac Benfield spoke about his team on Monday, first speaking on last week’s blowout win. “I thought that we started that game fast, which is something that we haven’t done too much during the season. I thought from offense to defense we played well all around in every aspect other than penalties during that game.”

As previously stated, Cloudland is on the road once again, and Benfield spoke on his team’s performance when playing away this season, saying, “So far this season, our team has played very well on the road. One thing these guys understand is that when you play on the road you are going to be behind the eight ball as far as not being used to the field and the environment as well as other things.

“We have come out laser-focused and started fast during away games, which has helped us be able to battle back on other team’s home field.”

Benfield also explained his team’s game plan for their matchup with the Huskies.

“North Greene has a very good team and has done well with the new guy that they brought in as head coach this year. While their record may not be the best, North Greene is a very athletic and very well-coached squad.

“They may not have the biggest players, but they do their jobs very well. If we are going to beat this team, we are gonna have to go out there on Friday and play to the best of our ability,” Benfield continued.

As his team nears the regular-season finale, Benfield spoke on what he has told his team as they get ready for the playoffs.

“One thing that I asked the guys before the start of last week’s game was to make sure that all of our goals were aligned. That is very important for everyone involved, from the coaches to the players.

“And that goal that we all have is to go as deep in the playoffs as we can and keep succeeding week after week. Our guys have been good about making that their main goal rather than focusing on individual accomplishments.”

Friday’s regular-season finale contest between the Highlanders and Huskies is set for 7:30 p.m. at North Greene High School.
