A number of Halloween events are planned in the area for Sunday, Oct. 31, and the days preceding and after the scariest night of the year. Among them are:
– SABINE HILL SOCIAL SOCIETY will have a Historic Halloween Sunday, Oct. 31, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. The program will feature music, songs, storytelling and a cake walk. Special guests include the Appalachian Clarinets, a local quartet providing seasonal tunes. Dress in an outfit from any period of time, if desired. This is a free event with light refreshments provided. Registration is required and a maximum of 25 will be admitted. – HAMPTON VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPT. Trunk or Treat from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Hampton-Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Dept., 418 Church St., Hampton. All little ghouls and goblins are invited.
– EAST RIVER PARK CHRISTIAN CHURCH at 1207 Broad St. from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31. Events will feature a cookout with hotdogs, chips, and drinks after the second service. Trunk or Treat will begin at 1:30 p.m. with candy, popcorn, and hayrides.
– GRACE BAPTIST CHURCH at 1114 Broad St. from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct 31 with Trunk or Treat while supplies last. 
– CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 225 Holly Lane, will have Trunk or Treat Sunday, Oct. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be fun, games, prizes and lots of candy.
– BOOTS OFF HOSTEL & CAMPGROUND will have its Second Annual Boots Off Halloween Costume Ball Sunday, Oct. 31, at 6 p.m. There will be two live music acts, Jefferson Coker and FlipsSide. Riverside Taphouse will provide a beer tent and prizes for the costume contest. There will also be food trucks. Tickets are required.
Boots Off Hostel & Campground is located at 142 Shook Branch Road, Hampton.
– DRIVE-THRU CANDY CRAWL TUESDAY at the Mall at Johnson City, 2011 N. Roan St., on Tuesday, Oct. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. The event is limited to 500 cars and registration is required. Each car can go through the drive-thru one time. Mall stores and vendors will be passing out candy and goodies. Each registration receives a free treat bag they can hang on their rear view mirror for candy to go in. Treat bags will be handed out the day of the event at the ticket check in. – TRUNK OR TREAT at Borderview Christian Church, 1338 Bristol Highway, Saturday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will be held in the church parking lot. Participants will have a chance to register for a door prize.
– DRIVE THRU TRUNK OR TREAT Saturday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lower Shell Creek Christian Church, 8726 US-19E Roan Mountain. There will be decorated cars along the parking lot, handing out treats and other goodies.
– BIG SON will be at Jiggy Ray’s Downtown Pizzeria Saturday, Oct. 30, at 6 p.m.
– TRUNK OR TREAT Saturday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. at the Carter County Sheriff’s Office.
– SCARY STORIES AT FORT WATAUGA Thursday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m. Strange things happen around All Hallows Eve, especially at an old fort by the river. But don’t be afraid. Fort Watauga at Sycamore Shoals isn’t haunted… Or Is It?!?! Join the park staff for an evening of family friendly stories, songs, and tales that are sure to send a shiver down your spine and tickle your funny bone.
– DRIVE-THRU TRICK OR TREAT Oct. 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Elizabethton Moose Lodge.
– TRUNK OR TREAT Oct. 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Unaka High School in the parking lot.
– MAZE OF LIFE CORN MAZE  at Doe River Gorge Sunday, Oct. 24, Saturday, Oct. 30, and Sunday, Oct. 31. More than a corn maze, more than a fall festival! Come experience activities such as train rides, “The Night Train,” pony rides, petting zoo, great food, specialty coffee and so much more. 
– DOWNTOWN TRICK OR TREAT OCT. 29 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Downtown merchants, civic clubs, and other organizations will hand out candy in the downtown.
– BECK MOUNTAIN CORN MAZE & MURDER MANOR Oct. 29 & 30, beginning at dark. The maze has three acres of goblins and ghosts.
