Warriors offense comes to life in senior night victory

HAPPY VALLEY – On a stormy senior night for the Happy Valley Warriors, some questions were asked as to if the game would even take place on Friday. Not only did the game take place, but the Happy Valley Warriors stormed in themselves with a point to prove.
Coming up against a fairly evenly matched Johnson County side, the game looked close on paper. However, the Warriors came out and dominated the first three quarters to grab their first win of the season 24-6.
The Warriors received the opening kickoff and immediately got things going on the ground with Pedro Colunga. Colunga would carry five times on the opening drive for 30 yards with a couple of runs from Landon Babb and Reagan Ensor trying to help Happy Valley, but ultimately they turned the ball over on downs.
A massive sack from Bronson Norman on the defense helped to quickly earn the ball back for the home side.
The Warriors wasted no time on the next possession as Ensor would connect with Andrew Little for 37 yards and the first score of the game.
After three incomplete passes and a punt, the Pedro Colunga show would return to action as he attacked the ground game. A slick double pass to Blake Garmon worked to perfection as he would connect with Colunga who was brought down at the five.
An outstanding catch from Babb, again from Ensor, would secure the second touchdown of the game and a 12-0 advantage.
The Happy Valley defense stayed staunch in their defense of the Longhorns both on the ground and through the air forcing another quick change of possession.
An Andrew Little 69-yard touchdown catch from Ensor took very little time on the next possession as the Warriors looked clearly in control and dominant.
A big run from Johnson County on the next drive was only a facade as penalties and continued defensive dominance from the Warriors shut down any chance the Longhorns had.
The Warriors again looked to be running with back-to-back connections from Ensor to Little appearing to be moving the ball, but an interception would abruptly end the drive.
A Little interception quickly earned the possession back, but a couple more exchanges of possession were all either team had in mind as the clock ticked towards halftime.
Coming out of the half, the Warriors kept their eyes on the prize with a defensive three and out.
The offense stalled out, but Landon Babb would recover a fumble on the defensive side and all the momentum stayed with the Warriors.
After a few solid gains from Colunga on the ground, Ensor called his own number and ran it in from 19 yards out.
Leading 24-0 heading into the fourth quarter, the Warriors appeared to let off the brakes a bit as offensive and defensive production slowed.
A late touchdown would make it 24-6, but the damage was already done as the Warriors had secured their first win of the season in an emphatic fashion.
