HAPPY VALLEY – On a dreary Tuesday night, the Happy Valley Middle Warriors were hoping to continue their undefeated start to the season welcoming in the South Greene Middle Rebels.
The conditions must’ve rubbed off on the Warriors as they got a slow start and never seemed to find their footing. Ultimately, the offense couldn’t reproduce the same results as their previous two games and the Warriors would fall, 22-0.
Happy Valley got the ball to start the game and immediately went to the ground. The South Greene defense was ready to play, however, quickly forcing a fourth down.
The Warriors would gamble and go for it, but a bad snap meant the end of the opening drive.
With good field positioning, the Rebels nickel and dimed their way down the field all the way to the end zone capping off the drive with a quarterback keeper for six yards. After a successful two-point conversion, the Warriors trailed 8-0.
The ensuing kickoff was fumbled away by Happy Valley, and South Greene had all the momentum.
The Warrior defense would step up and force the Rebels into a turnover on downs giving Happy Valley a much-needed possession to even things up.
A bad snap immediately set the Happy Valley offense up in a rough spot, but a couple of solid running plays from Gabriel MacDougal set up a fourth and manageable.
But the Rebels defense again stepped up and won back possession.
Some massive tackles from Aiden Paul tried to stall out the South Greene offense, but the Rebels continued their march down the field.
Just before the half, South Greene would punch the ball in with a deep pass giving them a 16-0 lead.
A penalty-filled second half set the tone for itself early. Lane Parker came alive on the defensive side for the Warriors, but a draining 10-play drive put a proverbial nail in the coffin for South Greene as the drive was capped with another big passing touchdown making the score, 22-0.
Some late fourth-quarter efforts from Landon Keller and Tyler Berry were dusted away by the staunch South Greene defense who refused to relent all game long.
After a couple of long drives from each team, neither of which resulted in points, the final horn sounded and the Warriors had been defeated 22-0.
The Warriors fall to 2-1 on the season.
