Janice Charlene Sazima (Jan Jan), 66, of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021, at her residence. She was born May 13, 1955, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Chris and Eloise Jones Dunlap. She had lived in Elizabethton for the past 24 years. 

   She was one of nine kids: her closest sister and best friend Brenda Burkley (Gary Burkley) of Cleveland, Ohio, Stanley Dunlap of Ashland, Ohio, Walt (Wally) Sazima of Texas, Barbara Cochrac of Florida(Deceased), Gilbert Dunlap (deceased), Lenville (Ray) Dunlap (Deceased), Clinton Dunlap (Deceased) and Lindann (LA) Sazima (Deceased).

   A loving mother of three: Lisha Jacome-Lopez of Elizabethton, Nick Sazima of Cleveland, Ohio and Danielle Ortiz of Bluff City. 

Grandmother of eight and special Mimi of 3: Elijah (Abby) and Juanita (Mita) Jacome-Lopez of Elizabethton, Lauran Goodwin of Johnson City, Jonathan and Jacqueline Grindstaff of Elizabethton, Jordan Carabello of Cleveland, Ohio, Daymon Sazima of Cleveland, Ohio, Dominick Sazima of Cleveland, Ohio, Oliverio Jr. Aldair, Landon Ortiz of Bluff City.

Great-grandmother of six: Kaylee Grindstaff of Bluff City, Layvin Grindstaff of Elizabethton, Grayson Sazima of Cleveland, Ohio, Jordan Jr. Carabello, Giannalyn (Gia) Carabello, Annalisa Carabello of Cleveland, Ohio. A special niece: Gina Townsley (Dylan and Alyssa Townsley of Cleveland, Ohio). Two special nephews: Clinton Dunlap Jr. and Andy Cochrac of Cleveland, Ohio. Several nieces and nephews. Her fiance Bill Simerly.  A special son Miguel Jacome-Lopez.

Graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2021, in the Highland Cemetery with Pastor Steven Nauman officiating. Pallbearers will be: Elijah Jacome-Lopez, Miguel Jacome-Lopez, Jonathan Grindstaff and Shannon Rowe. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to all the special Caregivers of Silver Angels and nurses of Ballad Health (Hospice) and her best friend a person could ask for: Pam Jessee (Jackline, Clay and Kevin). 

She was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church and a retired steelworker. She was everyone’s mom or Mimi. Loved and cared for everyone. Loved spending her days listening to music, watching her favorite show, Spending time with family and friends, loved cooking and was a long-time fan of Nascar. She loved giving Oli (the hamster) kisses and every day he always brought a smile to her face. Rest in peace in heaven with your heavenly father and savior.
